The National government has released an assortment of relief food supplies to needy families in four sub-counties of Marsabit County.
The distribution of the food stuffs to some areas has however been delayed due to impassable roads and non-facilitation to the respective sub-county deputy county commissioners with transport.
The Devolution and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary (CS), Eugene Wamalwa was informed in a situation briefing meeting in a Marsabit hotel on Tuesday that the lack of Authority to Incur Expenditure (AIEs) that is supposed to accompany the allocations was hampering the exercise.
Consignments for North Horr, Laisamis, Chalbi and Marsabit Central were lying at the local National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depot due to lack of transport.
The relief food supplies awaiting transportation include 800, 1,000 and 1,000 bags of rice for beneficiaries in North Horr, Marsabit Central and Chalbi sub-counties respectively.
Another consignment of 500 bags of rice, 200 bags of beans and 100 cartons of cooking oil for Laisamis sub-county is also awaiting dispatch.
However, Loyiangalani and Sololo sub-counties have not received any allocations since the beginning of this year.
The Cabinet Secretary assured that the hiccups will be addressed in order to ensure nobody deserving assistance is left to suffer.
Wamalwa said during the meeting also attended by Marsabit governor, Mohamud Ali that the national government has put in place measures to ensure those targeted under the general relief food distribution are taken care of.
