The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) officers in Bungoma County are currently training content supervisors who will in turn train enumerators set to carry out this year’s national population census, slated for August 24.
The County Commissioner (CC), Stephen Kihara revealed that 605 content supervisors are undergoing a seven day vigorous training at the Tourist hotel, being supervised by KNBS facilitators.
Addressing the press, Kihara stated that the content supervisors were picked based on their levels of education, background and their technical expertise.
“Already the ICT managers in the region have been trained in Kisumu, so we are training the content supervisors who will in turn train the enumerators. We have also done the mapping and preparation in conjunction with the Ministry of Interior before the actual work kicks off,” he said.
The CC stated that Bungoma has about 10 operational sub counties but the figure has risen up to 13 after the subdivision of Kimaeti, Kopsiro and Tongaren.
“We have been working out with the county census committee, where we have been meeting regularly to map out the exercise and how to surmount the challenges accordingly. For instance, on the issue of security I want to assure area residents that we are up to task to ensure smooth running of the exercise,” he said.
Kihara affirmed that they only picked local persons to be enumerators and also incorporated village elders so that the exercise runs without logistical problems.
