The Siaya County Commissioner (CC), Francis Tialal has assured local residents of maximum security during this year’s census.
Addressing the County Census Committee meeting on Friday, Tialal said that security officers are alert to avert any threat that may jeopardise the exercise that is slated for the night of August 24/25, 2019.
“We are aware that during such period, there are unscrupulous individuals who take advantage and pose as census officials to commit crime. We are ready for them,” he said.
Tialal called on the sub county security committees to ensure increased patrols during the period, adding that nothing should be left to chance.
The CC said that all the officials to carry out the exercise have been recruited from amongst the locals, adding that the recruitment panels exercised fairness and followed all the laid down procedures.
Tialal said that the County Census Committee was committed to ensuring that current and accurate data on the county’s population was obtained during the exercise and called for maximum cooperation from the public.
The County Statistics Officer, Maureen Akinyi said that arrangements for training of the enumerators were complete following the completion of training for Information Technology and Content supervisors.
She said that census materials have already been delivered to her office from Nairobi, awaiting distribution to the sub counties.
