Slow development in Northeastern due to insecurity, says Noor

The  Cooperatives Development Principal Secretary (PS), Ali  Noor Ismail has advised  Northeastern residents to maintain security in order to provide conducive atmosphere for development.

Noor  who spoke on Friday in Mandera town during a National Youths week said the region has lagged behind in development majorly due to security challenges.

He  said professionals from other regions have kept off the area due to insecurity emanating from constant terror attacks targeting non locals.

“All non-local teachers, engineers, medics and other professionals have abandoned the area. Our hospitals are left unattended and if the trend continues we are headed to a bleak future”, said Noor.

The  PS  advised area youths not to be lured into joining the  Al  Shabaab and asked residents to cooperate with government agencies in ensuring peace and security prevailed.

He  said, “Let us report all bad elements amongst us and we will surely make big strides in maintaining security for fast development,” he advised.

Noor  said the government has disbursed over Sh.140 million to area youth to boost business in the region.

The  Education County Executive, Izzudin  Mohamed said his department was keen to grow youth’s talents through financial support.

Mohamed said the county government has disbursed over Sh. 126 million bursaries to needy students. “We have also identified some 26 girls with talents to go for vocational training courses this year in Turkey,” he added.
