Businessman sponsors needy students in Rachuonyo

Donald Ogilo, a businessman from Kakello Kokwanyo in Rachuonyo, has sponsored over 200 needy students studying in various secondary schools.

Ogilo said he offered to sponsor needy students from his community to complement the government’s efforts.

“The government is doing its part to sponsor students from poor backgrounds, but sometimes the assistance does not reach all the needy cases,” he said.

With the challenge at hand, Ogilo felt he could do something to close the gap even with the sponsorship.

In 2025, the bursary distribution that took place at East Kasipul division office, the students received cheques worth Sh. 2000 each, while students studying in day schools received full scholarship

“I also appreciate Mr. Ogilo for the developments he has brought to our village, Kakello Kokwanyo; he also distributed milk to our children in school, and may the Lord bless him,” said Daniel Owino Bure.

Bure said he was grateful for the good work Ogilo was doing in the community, especially in the education sector, saying he reckoned the fact that school fees were hard to come by.

Pister Akinyi from Nyawango Secondary School, on behalf of other students who benefitted, conveyed appreciation to Ogilo for paying their school fees, promising to work hard in academics.

Kakello location chief Jackstone Ogweno challenged the students to steer off bad peer influence and instead work hard toward translating the sponsorship into meaningful impact in their lives.

“Parents take care of your children, be aware of their whereabouts all the time, instill discipline and keep checking on their performance in schools,” Ogweno said.
