Security agencies in Kehancha town have successfully destroyed explosives and detonators seized in Kuria West Sub County.
Speaking during the destruction process at the Kehancha grounds, Kuria West Deputy Commissioner Andrew Mwiti said that they were following court directives from the Kehancha law courts.
Security agencies had seized 45 explosive boxes and 107 detonators suspected to have been smuggled into the sub-county, arresting ten individuals and arraigning them at Kehancha police station.
Mwiti warned that if the explosive had been misused, the security of the county and the nation could have been at risk.
On the other hand, Tom Wafula from the Migori Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)-Boom disposal unit urged the public to be the watchdog and report any suspicious activities to the security agency to secure the community.
The illegal mining activities in the region have also been blamed for importing explosives that pose a danger to the population. Thus, the destruction process was overseen by officials from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and mining departments.
