County Releases 80 Million shillings for Bursaries and Scholarships

Kajiado County Governor Joseph ole Lenku has issued bursaries and scholarships worth Sh80 Million to their beneficiaries.

Out of the Sh80M, Sh 20 million has been earmarked as scholarships for needy and orphaned learners in secondary, university and technical institutions.

Speaking during the release the Governor said that his administration will continue increasing the amount allocated to bursaries and scholarships as the revenue collected by the county increases.

He noted that they are aware that many parents are unable to pay the school fees for their children as climate change has greatly affected livestock sector which is the main source of livelihood for many parents in the county thus they need the support of their county government.

“Let us all focus on education as it will help alleviate poverty in our communities. Ensure your children go to school. Always keep track of their performance as good performance of the students requires the efforts of the teachers, parents and the students combined,” said Governor Lenku.

He directed the Department of Education to ensure that the disbursement process is completed latest Tuesday next week so that the beneficiaries can access the assistance and study without difficulties.

The County Executive Committee Member(CECM) for Education, Vocational Training, Youth and Sports Janet Sereu said that her department targets to raise the level of education in the county to guarantee the future of all learners.

She revealed that the Sh20 million scholarships has already been released to the beneficiaries while the bursaries will be disbursed next week.
