Music artists from Murang’a County have called on the government to organise and support regional music concerts so as to promote local talents and strengthen cultural pride.
Speaking during a cultural music festival organised by Murang’a County Government at Gatuyu Grounds in Gatanga Constituency on Sunday, the artists said they have limited platforms to showcase their talents.
The musicians urged the government to establish regional music studios and organise concerts across the country to boost community connection and cultural pride.
“Social media has made it easier to reach audiences, but we lack adequate resources, like music studios, to produce professional music. With government support, we can empower local talent and elevate our music industry,” said one of the artists, Gathee wa Njeri.
Gathee, who is also MCA for Gaturi Ward, appealed to parents to nurture their children’s musical aspirations, emphasising that music can be a pathway to self-employment and a means of preserving Kikuyu culture for future generations.
“Parents have a critical role to play. When you support your child’s passion for music, you are helping them build a career and preserving our culture for future generations.” He added.
The event brought together renowned Kikuyu artists from various parts of Murang’a County and local residents to celebrate music and culture in the Christmas spirit.
Organised by the Murang’a County Government, the festival is part of its initiative to support music, nurture talent, and provide opportunities for legendary and upcoming artists to perform.
Governor Irungu Kang’ta assured his administration’s commitment to support talents, music, and culture through the festival and other initiatives.
“This is part of the county government’s plan to support music and grow the talents of these artists as well as upcoming artists by allowing them to perform in the event,” he stated.
