Uncollected title deeds lie in Murang’a lands office

Collection of title deeds has been slow in Muranga County as more than 300 of the land ownership documents lie at the regional registrar of lands’ office.
The delay in collection of the documents have attracted concerns of members of County Development Implementation and Coordination Committee (CDICC) who opted to use interior administrator to trace the owners at grassroots.
Murang’a County Commissioner Mr. Mohammed Barre who is chairperson of the committee said two months ago they distributed more than 100 title deeds noting that some owners of the documents cannot be traced.
He said they have been using chiefs and their assistants to distribute the title deeds so as to ensure people get their documents in efforts to resolve land ownership wrangles which have been witnessed in some areas.
Barre observed that so far, there were 398 title deeds at the county land registrar’s office which are yet to be collected saying processing of more title deeds was on-going.
Speaking during the CDICC meeting in his office on Wednesday, the commissioner wondered why some people applied for the lands ownership documents and failed to collect them.
“The CDICC will this month 14, visit Kigumo and Kandara Sub Counties to issue the titles to residents from the two areas and visit other sub counties later,” noted Barre.
He called on those who applied for the deeds to check with the lands registrar’s office on status of their applications.
The commissioner further observed that they will remove brokers who have been interfering with operations at the lands office saying many people had fallen victims to the deceit of the brokers and lost their money.
“One way to hasten operations at the lands office is to remove brokers who have been disturbing residents seeking help at the office,” Barre noted.
“Removing of the brokers is not easy but we will stamp our authority and ensure there are no brokers at the lands office,” added Barre who further said two police officers were deployed on daily basis to bring order at the lands office.
Meanwhile, the commissioner cautioned those who had encroached on road reserves saying they will be evicted during upgrading of the roads.
He observed that some people had built stalls at road reserves and notice had been issued to those who had encroached on to roads slated to be upgraded.
“We will not hesitate to bring down any building put up at road reserves. The government is currently embarking on upgrading eight roads in the county and works will continue smoothly despite the encroachments,” stated Barre
