Kilgoris Member of Parliament Julius Sunkuli has officially commissioned five projects funded through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), cementing his commitment to grassroots development.
The projects include three newly constructed classrooms and separate boys’ and girls’ toilets at Lamuriaki Primary School, along with a new chief’s office at the Kapune location in Kilgoris.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony at Lamuriaki Primary School on Saturday, MP Sunkuli applauded the NG-CDF for its critical role in transforming education through infrastructure development.
“Since taking office, we’ve delivered over 42 classrooms and other impactful projects,” he remarked.
Sunkuli added that the development projects are a testament to the dedication towards addressing the challenges faced by the communities, especially in education.
The new facilities were identified as high-priority by residents during public participation forums. Sunkuli emphasized that the classrooms would drastically reduce the distance young learners travel, cutting the previous 3-kilometre trek.
The event saw notable leaders in attendance, including Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere, former National Assembly Speaker Francis Kaparo, and other county officials.
MP Korere underscored the transformative power of the NG-CDF, stating, “This fund is a lifeline for the common mwananchi, directly addressing the most urgent needs at the grassroots.”
She further highlighted the fund’s purpose, which is enshrined in law: to spur socio-economic development, alleviate poverty, and promote equity across regions.
She also criticised those opposed to the kitty, emphasising that it has made significant contributions to tangible projects at the grassroots level and remains a fund that the community truly feels the impact of.
Trans Mara West Deputy County Commissioner Chuck Masua also hailed the initiative, noting that it aligns seamlessly with the government’s policy of achieving a 100 per cent transition rate from primary to secondary schools.
