It was all joy for residents in 25 children’s homes across the country after a local investor, the Broadway Group of Companies, donated food, clothing, and essential equipment, providing them the much-needed cheer during this Christmas festive season.
Among the beneficiaries was the Mogra Children’s Home in Muthaiga, Nairobi, where a vibrant celebration brought joy to 600 children rescued from abandonment, abuse, and life on the streets.
The corporate entity, led by their Marketing Director Devan Shah, said the move is part of their annual initiatives of spreading love and giving back to the society during festive seasons.
Shah said the donations will go a long way in providing relief to the children’s homes, which often struggle to maintain sustainable food supplies and finances.
“Christmas is a time to show love and share what we have with others to reflect God’s love. Many children’s homes are facing immense challenges due to the difficult economic situation, but they are vital institutions we cannot overlook,” Shah said.
Irene Wambui, the Manager of Mogra Children’s Home, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Broadway Group, urging other investors and well-wishers to similarly chip in.
“These children deserve to enjoy Christmas like any other Kenyan. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a significant difference,” Wambui said.
Meanwhile, in Thika town, it was all joy for children from Macheo Children’s Home after the Administration Police from Kiambu County gave out an assortment of goodies to celebrate during this festive season.
The consignment, which included foodstuffs, personal effects, and clothing, among several other gifts, came in handy for the destitute children.
Led by the County AP Chaplain Rev. Timothy Maina, they said the donations came from their annual contributions, which they donate to various children’s homes during the festivities.
Inspector Kennedy Kimani, representing the County Commander, said such initiatives also help bring the police closer to the community for enhanced working relationships.
“Other than being police officers, we have the other side of being family people. We should not be seen as enemies to the people, and that’s why we always share love with these children during festive seasons,” said Kimani.
Joan Wambui Mburu, the Manager Macheo Children’s home lauded the humanitarian gesture by the police saying it lifted the spirits of the children.
She called on other well-wishers to come on board and support the children to enable them to cope with the high population of children in need of care, coupled with their many demands.
