The county government of Narok has employed over 400 personnel in the last three years, after the development of the County Staff establishment framework.
While addressing the public during the Jamhuri day celebrations, Governor Patrick Ntutu said the framework enabled the county government to identify workforce gaps, where they employed technical personnel, and still maintained a sustainable wage bill.
Moreso, he said, the county is in the process of recruiting 700 more staff, as documented in the staff establishment framework, following the expansion of essential services.
“We have extended critical services like the construction of new Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centers, maternity units and dispensaries across the county,” he said.
The Jamhuri day celebrations were held at the William Ole Ntimama stadium, led by Governor Ntutu and Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia.
In line with the day’s theme, ‘Jobs, labour migration, entrepreneurship, and entertainment,’ Ntutu revealed that he recognizes the pressing issue of unemployment particularly among the youth who make up the majority of the workforce.
Labour migration is an opportunity for mutual benefit, he said, observing that for host countries, migrants bring skills, fresh perspectives and valuable contributions to their economies.
While for the sending country, the benefits are equally significant as the remittances sent home by the people living abroad are a vital source of income for families.
He underscored the future of sustainable job creation lies in equipping people with technical, employable skills in fields like mechanics, ICT, carpentry, plumbing among others.
“By embracing technical training and fostering entrepreneurship, we can build a county that thrives on innovation and self-reliance,” he said, adding that this is the reason why his administration was focused on investing in the Technical and Voluntary Education Training (TVETs).
The governor used the platform to reiterate his key achievements in his three-year tenure, where he underscored that his collaboration with the national government has yielded multiple achievements in the county.
“I extend my gratitude to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KenHA) for constructing two-foot bridges along the Narok- Maai Mahiu highway. The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has also tarmacked the Macedonia and Kamoja roads in Total estate,” he said.
Additionally, the governor reported that his administration has rehabilitated and restored 62 kilometers of road network within Narok township and is in the process of upgrading another 33 kilometers in every ward.
During the occasion, the governor launched the Ole Ntutu Soccer Cup that will bring hundreds of talented youths on board.
