Leaders Support appointment of two elders into unity committee

Leaders in Gusii region have endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s appointment of two elders from the community into the committee to spearhead the unity process initiated through the hand shake between the President and NASA leader, Raila Odinga.

Led by the Kisii County Senator, Sam Ongeri, Governor  James Ongwae, Deputy Governor, Joash Maangi, and elders from Kisii and Nyamira County, the leaders applauded the handshake, saying the two leaders set a good precedence in unifying the country whose situation was made volatile by the politics leading to the year2017 general elections.

Lauding Uhuru and Raila for putting away their differences in the system of governance and uniting to chart a way forward for the country, Ongeri said good leaders recognise deficiencies in the system and seeks counsel on the best processes, urging Kenyans to embrace the unity emulated by the two leaders.

Ongwae  showed optimism the handshake would translate into development of the country and pledged full support for the engagement.

Echoing  similar sentiments, Maangi noted that the handshake did not recognise tribalism and any form of hatred.

The  Kisii University  Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Akama was also present.
