Meru County Secretary Kiambi Atheru has warned lazy and ghost workers that the County government will not continue paying those who are not adding value in terms of service delivery.
Speaking during this year’s Jamhuri celebrations at Kinoru Stadium, Dr Atheru said that such workers will also be struck off from the payroll starting this month to ensure they do not receive any cent that they have not worked for.
“We have a total of 6,000 workers in the county who are helping us to deliver services to the residents. However, out of these, some do not report to their places of work.
The responsibility of payroll and workers’ management lies with me and following a recent directive from the Governor, I will ensure that those who don’t work are no longer paid by striking them off the payroll,” said Dr Atheru.
He added that they have already stopped salaries for a good number of such workers and called on those other joyriders not to wait for their salary to be stopped as this means have to follow a long and tedious process seeking reinstatement.
“I am therefore calling on all the workers from the ward to the headquarters level to always be at their work stations at the right time failure to which we will punish them as prescribed by the law,” he said adding that they will not tolerate any kind of laziness in the county whereas the residents are looking upon them for service delivery.
He said that the government was committed to working for the people and would not tolerate any issues that would make them lose focus.
