Mandera County marked Kenya’s 60th Jamhuri Day with vibrant celebrations in Rhamu Mandera North, where leaders highlighted the need for improved healthcare and community cooperation for security.
During the event, Mandera Governor Mohamed Khalif called on residents to support the country’s healthcare initiatives by registering with the government’s Universal Health Coverage programme, known as SHA.
He emphasised the programme’s critical role in ensuring that all residents gain access to essential health services, aiming to alleviate the ongoing challenges faced in the county.
“So far, Mandera County has successfully enrolled over 40,000 residents into the SHA system,” the Governor announced, lauding the efforts of healthcare advocates and urging more residents to take advantage of the initiative.
In addition to healthcare, Mandera County Commissioner Henry Ochako issued a stern warning against individuals disrupting peace within the region.
He assured the community that the security apparatus remains vigilant and called for residents’ support to maintain stability.
“Peace is essential for development. We must all work together to ensure Mandera remains secure for everyone,” Ochako said.
The day’s celebrations were marked by cultural performances and reflections on Kenya’s independence journey, with leaders reiterating the county’s commitment to progress through collaboration in healthcare and security.
