Former Makueni county governor Professor Kivutha Kibwana has cautioned Nyandarua leaders against in-fighting noting it is detrimental to service delivery to the people.
Kibwana pointed out that he has learnt through experience he gained as governor that service delivery is derailed when leaders engage in political rivalry.
The Makueni Governor was speaking during the 8th Nyandarua County assembly’s breakfast prayer meeting where he was the keynote speaker.
The Daystar University Professor of Law revisited his first term as governor when Mukueni witnessed the worst bickering between the executive and the assembly leading to some people being injured.
“In Makueni we had total war between the executive and County assembly during the first term and it hurt delivery of service,” noted Kibwana.
He wondered why Nyandarua has had one term governors since inception of devolution, with the first being Daniel Waithaka who served from 2013 to 2017, then Francis Kimemia who was also voted out in 2022. The current governor is Dr. Kiarie Badilisha.
He observed that one term gubernatorial trend was denying Nyandarua fast development, adding that Nyandarua County should not be in the league of Makueni in terms of development since it is rich in resources.
In their speeches, Speaker Waiganjo Wachira and Senator John Methu appreciated the need for the prayer day saying it played a major role in bringing together members of staff, MCAs and the executive.
The duo noted that despite a myriad of challenges that have faced the country, unity of purpose was paramount in ensuring that even in difficulties, leaders remain united.
Methu regretted delayed disbursement of County Funds by the National Government noting it has done a disservice to the county administration He however added that the experience calls for self-reflection by all leaders so that they find better ways of moving forward even under such circumstances.
He noted that there have been challenges across the country but there was room for improvement if leaders respect devolution and the constitution.
Governor Badilisha was represented by his deputy Mathara Mwangi.
