Eliud Lagat, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, along with senior police officials from Nairobi, made an impromptu visit to the Kapenguria Police Station in West Pokot.
Lagat said the purpose of the visit was also to assess the ongoing police operations and to determine whether the county residents are benefiting from the services provided by the police.
Police emphasized that comprehensive plans have been established police to ensure the safety of all citizens, addressing both traffic and home security within West Pokot and across Kenya especially in light of the December festive season.
After receiving updates from senior police officers in West Pokot, he said he was pleased to learn that the security situation in region is under control, with no significant issues of insecurity reported.
Lagat reminded the police officers in West Pokot of the importance of collaboration moving forward, advocating for a synergistic approach in the spirit of multi-agency cooperation to ensure that all Kenyans can enjoy the freedom of movement guaranteed by the constitution.
The DIG emphasized that the police station should serve as a model of excellence in police operations and service delivery for the community.
He highlighted several pressing infrastructure issues at the Kapenguria police station, particularly the need for improvements to create an environment where residents feel valued and can access the services they require.
He expressed a commitment to ensuring that the Kapenguria police station provides a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the government’s dedication to public safety.
Lagat said he had identified various concerns during his visit and said he intends to address through administrative channels, aiming to enhance the infrastructure of the Kapenguria Pokot police station at the divisional command level.
He also reiterated the ongoing battle against drug-related issues, including the consumption of illicit brews, stressing the importance of protecting future generations from the dangers associated with substance abuse.
Lagat called upon the residents of West Pokot County to collaborate with law enforcement and security personnel in combating drug-related crimes, particularly during the December holiday season, to achieve a zero-tolerance policy towards alcohol and drug-related offenses, including second-generation alcohol.
He noted the correlation between substance abuse and other serious crimes, such as murder and femicide, underscoring the urgent need to address the issues to ensure that all citizens can enjoy a safe environment.
Lagat urged the people of West Pokot to work together with the police to ensure a peaceful and joyous Christmas season, wishing them a Merry Christmas.
