Migori partners with the Mpesa Foundation to establish a maternity center

The Migori County Government, in partnership with the Mpesa Foundation, will establish a state-of-the-art 40-bed maternity complex at Awendo Sub County Hospital.

Speaking on Thursday during the groundbreaking ceremony, Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko expressed his gratitude to the Mpesa Foundation and stated that the facility will enhance maternal and child healthcare services.

Ochilo noted that the state-of-the-art facility will ensure safer deliveries and improved health outcomes for the Awendo community and its surrounding environs.

He added that the new facility will help alleviate the pressure on the Level Four Migori County Referral Hospital and expressed his gratitude to the Mpesa Foundation for their timely assistance upon recognizing the need to establish the facility at Awendo Sub County Hospital.

He assured the public that his administration would be recruiting highly skilled technical staff capable of handling the maternity wing to ensure a safe space for the county women.

Ochilo however, criticized land grabbers saying that their days were numbered and adding that such vices hinder the development of essential facilities like hospitals.

Chairman of the Mpesa Foundation Joseph Ogutu disclosed that after receiving a call from the governor about the specific needs of Awendo Sub County Hospital which included the high patient population and space for expansion, they conducted research and established the demand for a maternity facility.

Ogutu expressed optimism about opening the maternity complex by March or April 2025, to ensure that the community enjoy a state-of-the-art facility to improve the county’s health care.
