Police in Kapsowar have arrested a man who allegedly killed his stepson in Sisiya sub location in Marakwet West Sub County.
The security personnel are also looking for 14 suspects who upon learning of the incident burnt houses belonging to the suspect, destroyed a maize plantation before injuring two chiefs and robbing them of their phones.
It was said the man, Benjamin Cherop, inherited his brother’s wife who already had two boys and sired two other children with her but he never accepted woman’s older children.
On Tuesday a dispute arose and an enraged Cherop took a panga and cut the deceased who was a form one student on the back of his head. He was rushed to Kapsowar AIC mission hospital but was referred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Eldoret where he succumbed to his injuries.
Confirming the incident, area Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), John Otieno said upon receiving the news, relatives of the wife who comes from Kitonget village in Yemit sub location came and caused mayhem in Cherop’s home.
The DCC said the two chiefs, Kipsaiya location Chief Moses Kiptum and his assistant had gone to intervene and control the situation when they were accosted and in the process injured and their phones stolen.
“They were treated and discharged at the AIC Kapsowar hospital before reporting the matter to the police,” the DCC said.
