Narok County government has built 58 health facilities in the last two years in a bid to improve health care and service delivery in the critical sector.
Area governor Patrick Ntutu prioritizes health as it leads to increased productivity and economic growth in the county.
The governor commissioned a laboratory at Naisoya dispensary in Narok Central Sub County and initiated the construction of a mega hospital building at the same facility.
Ntutu stated that funds have been allocated for the construction of a hospital to cater to the growing population in the Naisoya area.
He underscored that the county plans to upgrade five level four hospitals in the following sub counties Lolgorian hospital in Trans Mara South, Amaro hospital in Narok Amaro, Nairegie Enkare hospital in Narok East, Emurrua Dikirr hospital in Transmara East and Kilgoris hospital in Trans Mara West Sub County.
A fortnight ago, the county government re-introduced the Ambulance services that had been suspended due to mismanagement of funds remitted for the services.
However, the governor took the opportunity to warn young men who impregnate girls during school holidays that they risk being arrested and prosecuted in court of law.
Moreover, he noted that the percentage of teenage pregnancy had dropped from 40 percent in 2016 to 28 percent in 2022, saying they are targeting to lower the numbers to less than 10 percent.
“We have agreed with the county commissioner that when schools open in January, all girls must be tested for pregnancy and those found positive should show the responsible man so that he can face the full force of the law,” he said.
On the other hand, the governor urged society to utilize the county government’s bursary to educate children from vulnerable backgrounds, emphasizing that no parent should fail to attend school.
“Hence, we are the leading county in the country, the county is the top in issuing bursaries, releasing Sh400 million last year and nearly releasing another for next year, eliminating the need for children to stay home,” he said.
Meanwhile, the governor condoled with the family of nominated Senator Peris Tobiko, who lost her husband, the late former CRA Commissioner Kishanto Ole Suuji.
