Trans Nzoia assembly unveils a four-year Strategic plan

Trans Nzoia County Assembly has launched a Strategic Plan for 2023-2027 period.

The plan’s launch is a significant milestone in the county assembly’s governance and development agenda.

Speaking during the roll out of the Plan in Sitatunga Ward Cherangany Sub County, the assembly Speaker Andrew Wanyonyi stressed the importance of the document saying that it shares a collective vision towards a brighter future for the people of Trans Nzoia County.

The document outlines the aspirations and shared vision for a better future for the assembly and its members.

Wanyonyi stated that the plan was developed through extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including county assembly members, county secretariat officials, civil society organizations and the public.

He further stated the primary focus is to enhance the county assembly’s role in legislation, oversight, and representation.

“The plan clearly outlines key pillars that will guide our operations, including transparency, accountability, capacity building, public participation, infrastructure development, and the integration of technology,” he explained, adding that all these will be done, while ensuring alignment with both the national and county agendas.

Thus, once achieved, the road map for sustainable development and improved community partnerships would have been set in place.

Wanyonyi urged all stakeholders, government entities, the private sector, civil society organizations, and the public to collaborate in making the vision of the strategic plan a reality.

“This strategic plan symbolizes hope, progress, and commitment to Trans Nzoia County’s integrity, aiming to build a brighter future with our collective efforts,” he said.

Also present during the launch was Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya who commended the county assembly for the successful formulation of the strategic plan as he praised the efforts of the Assembly in shaping a vision for the county’s future.

“Today, it is my pleasure to join hands with the county assembly in marking this great milestone. Through the leadership of the county assembly service board, we have successfully developed this strategic plan and for that we commend you,” said Natembeya.

However, the Governor stressed the importance of both formulating and implementing strategies, noting that effective governance requires action.

Natembeya stated that the administration has made significant progress in implementing the county’s integrated development plan in the past two years, following a strategic plan.

The governor highlighted some of his significant achievements such as bursaries for 22,000 students, construction of county headquarters, Tom Mboya Mother and Child Hospital, operationalization of Teaching Hospitals, and employment conversion for 700 educators.

“These successes have been possible through our partnership with the county assembly. We appreciate the efforts of the Assembly in approving plans and budgets that have allowed us to achieve this positive progress,” he added.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Philomena Kapkory echoed Natembeya’s words and congratulated the Assembly for developing the strategic plan as she emphasized the importance of implementation.

“I stand here to congratulate the county assembly for the strategic plan which has just been rolled out. Putting this plan into documentation is one thing but implementing it is a crucial aspect. I urge you to ensure that the plan is put into action in an effort to realize people’s aspirations,” she challenged.

Others present during the event were County Secretary Truphosa Amere, County Assembly deputy speaker Obed Mwale and Members of the Trans Nzoia County Assembly.
