Maintain academic standards, university urged

The  Mbeere  North  Member  of  Parliament, Muriuki  Njagagua has challenged universities to ensure they maintain academic standards as required by Commission for University Education (CUE).

Njagagua  who was speaking at Kirii Secondary School in Mbeere North said maintaining academic standards would ensure the Kenyans graduates compete favourably with their counterparts in Kenya and outside the country in the job market.

“Let  us  standardise our university academic standards and do actual and thorough research and so as to avoid awarding fake degrees and PhDs,” he added.

Njagagua  who  was presiding over the distribution of food relief also expressed his concern over many mushrooming universities with some lecturers managing about 2000 learners hence affecting the standards of the PhDs and degrees awarded.

On  the  war against corruption, Njagagua noted that the courts should be allowed to carry their work without interference.

He  also observed that the fight cannot be carried out selectively but all culpable to should be prosecuted.

Njagagua  also challenged the police and Ethic and Anti-Corruption Commission to do thorough investigations in matter related to corruption to make their cases water tight.

The  Mbeere North Deputy County Commissioner, Christoper  Siele  warned the residents against engaging in activities that are detrimental to the education of their children such as early marriages and early pregnancies.

He  advised the learners to utilise well their time for education was their hope especially in Mbeere North which is dry with few economic opportunities.
