Task force formed to review Kirandich Water Company affairs

Baringo county Governor Benjamin Cheboi has appointed a five-member task force to look into the affairs of Kirandich Water Company following a public outcry over mismanagement claims.

According to Cheboi, the task force which doubles up as an interim management will address various challenges facing the company including perennial water shortage within Kabarnet town and its environs, lack of proper treatment of water, high electricity cost and unpaid salaries for staff.

He stated that the new team comprising engineers and accountants would give an exit report after three months before he in conjunction with Members of County Assembly on the way forward.

“I have appointed a task force to look into the affairs of Kirandich Water Company and take remedial measures,” Cheboi said in a statement seen by KNA on Tuesday.

The county boss also announced suspension of the outgoing board led by Company Managing Director Jackton Kimutai who will be replaced by Luka Kipyegen in an interim capacity as Graig Kiptanui from Chemususu assumes the Technical Manager’s role alongside three other officials.

Kipyegen, who spoke separately to a section of media, promised residents uninterrupted distribution of clean and safe water while calling for prompt payment of bills to improve the services of the company.

The interim manager flanked by Kiptanui said they were evaluating the cost of electricity with plans of recommending solarization in booster stations and installation of powerful water pumps at the dam to address frequent machine breakdown during pumping of water to the main tank in Kabarnet town which serves more than 6,000 consumers.
