MCAs Housing Allowance

Members of Homa Bay County Assembly have joined other MCAs across the country to demand for housing allowance perk with immediate effect after endorsing house allowance motion.

The  MCAs  wanted house allowance as state officers basing their argument on the ruling made by High Court Judge, Justice Chacha Mwita on October 5, 2018 that state officers are entitled to house allowance.

The  Assembly acting Speaker, Evans Marieba, who presided over the debate, accused Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC) of sidelining the MCAs in awarding house allowances.

While  addressing the journalists, Marieba argued that SRC had gone against a court ruling between the Council of governors and the commission of awarding of allowances.

In a motion tabled before the Assembly by the Leader of Majority, Walter Muok seek to entitle MCAs to housing allowance just like other state officers.

Muok  further claimed that it is their constitutional right to housing allowance just like other government employees following the High court ruling in October last year.

During  the debate on the floor of the House, MCA of Kanyamwa/Kosewe Nicholas Owaka argued that the move will facilitate and ease their movement to the Assembly to discharge their duties on time.

Some of  the County Assemblies that have so far endorsed the motion include Kakamega, Murang’a, Isiolo and Garissa among others.
