The National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) has decentralised its operations to enhance service delivery for it’s’ members who are living with physical and mental challenges.
Among the services is the registration of persons with disabilities which is now done at the County offices while assessment of individuals is done at the County Referral hospitals and the medical report signed after two weeks.
The Bungoma County Disability Services Officer Rosemary Amiru said that People living with disabilities are now able to apply and get a certificate on the E-Citizen platform once they receive a recommended medical assessment.
She was speaking during a Bungoma Disability Dialogue Forum whose theme was “Celebrating 20 years of diversity and inclusion in Kenya: Stories of Triumph and Overcoming Barriers” that was held at the County Commissioners boardroom Tuesday.
Amiru said that application for tax exemption had also been digitized as application is done online but it required an individual to present themselves physically to the authorities for verification.
Mr Adrian Sakwa of Bungoma Disability Network called on employees across the board to work towards giving People Living with disabilities opportunities to serve in various positions as per their skills and to consider empowering those without the skills as a step towards inclusivity.
The forum was held ahead of the celebrations to mark the international day for the disabled that will be held at the Bungoma Airstrip grounds on December 3 this year.
