The County Government of Nyeri, through the Department of Health Services, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Nyeri National Polytechnic (NNP) and WAKA Continuing Medical Education Centre (CMEC).
This partnership is set to advance County-Level healthcare education and training.
Speaking during the signing of the memorandum CECM Health Dr. Joseph Maina Kiragu in his office said the MOU with Nyeri National Polytechnic Principal. David Mwangi (NNP) will enable a Dual TVET Training program focused on Biomedical Engineering.
Dr Kiragu said this collaboration aims to provide trainees with essential hands-on experience in critical areas such as Laboratory, Basic Diagnostics, Theatre, Radiology and Imaging, ICU, Ophthalmic and ENT, Dental and Renal Equipment Maintenance, Workshop Processes, and Hospital Engineering Principles.
Through this agreement, students will gain invaluable skills to prepare them for the healthcare field.
WAKA CMEC Director Rosemary Kamunya said their institutions a non-profit medical training institution, has also joined forces with the Department of Health to strengthen the training of medical personnel.
This partnership supports professional development through research, internships, practical training, and supervised mentorship by qualified staff. With access to institutional facilities and linkages with other health facilities across the county, medical trainees will benefit from a comprehensive learning environment.
Both MOUs promise significant advantages to the community by fostering a well-trained, skilled workforce capable of delivering high-quality healthcare services. Enhanced local training resources mean our residents will benefit from improved medical care and support, contributing to a healthier Nyeri.
Dr. Kiragu said the MOUs will remain effective for three years, with potential for renewal upon mutual agreement.
Present at the signing were also Mr. Ibrahim Adan Chief Officer Health, Dr. Nelson Muriu Director Health, among others.
