Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has appealed to youth across the county to take advantage of the partnership between the county and national governments to enroll for various courses in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centres.

He said his administration is set to match the National Government’s grant of Sh62 million to local 25 Vocational Training Centres in the 2019/2020 Financial Year with a further disbursement of Sh20million.

“This means that the tuition fee sponsorship per student joining these institutions will increase from the current Sh15, 000 to Sh20, 000, thus the need by students to capitalize on such opportunities to take up courses the institutions were offering,” Ojaamong said.

The governor made the appeal on Friday at Busia Township Vocational and Training Centre where he commissioned the distribution of tools and
equipment worth Sh8 million to the county’s 25 Vocational Training Centres (VTCs).

He also said that the VTCs will benefit from an additional Sh5 million for the rebranding of their gates into modern ones.

Each VTC will receive equipment based on its preference on the procured tools and equipment which included computer and joinery, ICT, motor vehicle engines, building construction, hairdressing and beauty therapy, plumbing, agribusiness, electrical, food and beverage, and welding and fabrication.

Ojaamong said five VTCs in five sub counties will undergo infrastructural improvement where in phase one of the projects, Sh3.2 million has been allocated to Katakwa VTC in Teso North for renovation of a workshop.

Onyunyur VTC in Teso South will benefit from Sh2.2million for the construction of a workshop with Nambale and Dirakho VTC in Funyula each benefiting from similar projects worth Sh4 million.

Bukoma VTC in Bunyala has been allocated Sh4 million for the construction of an administration block.

He said Butula and Matayos will also be considered in the current financial year, while 11 VTCs across the county will benefit from modern gates as part of the rebranding exercise.
