Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif has underscored the importance of recognizing freedom fighters as they have made it possible for Africans to achieve development in the education, health, security, and community sectors.
Governor Khalif used the occasion to call on the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) to give desired services to the public.
Mandera County Commissioner Henley Ochako called on area communities to live in peace so as to realize development in the border county.
The CC noted that tribal clashes realized in 2015 have wrecked development making residents poor even as the government was pressing for development in the region.
On security the County Commissioner asked residents to cooperate with security agents to realize peace in the region.
He however thanked residents for their continued efforts in supporting the government.
The function was held in Banisa Stadium in Banisa Sub County.
