Vihiga county government has identified and feted her heroes and heroines in various fields during this year’s Mashujaa Day commemoration.
Speaking during the event at Emusire high school in Emuhaya sub county, Governor Wilber Ottichilo said the county would be annually recognising and appreciating the outstanding achievements of her sons and daughters.
The county head stated that it is imperative that those community members who contribute in various ways to the well-being of humanity have to be celebrated.
“As a county, we feel heavily indebted to those who do marvelous work in education, environment conservation, promoting human rights, music and creative arts as well as community service and the decision to honour them,” he observed.
The governor added that the responsibility of honouring the achievers cannot be left to the national government alone and that is why they resolved to launch the initiative.
Apart from receiving medals, the champions would be documented into the county records for future reference.
Twelve individuals were feted including Prof Egara Kabaji in the education field, Jael Abukutsa, human rights and community service and Elam Malenge, peace and conflict resolution; Kevin Makova, climate change while Victor Mwanga was recognised for environmental conservation efforts.
