The Nanyuki ultra-modern market in Laikipia has kicked off in earnest and is expected to benefit more than 1,000 traders upon completion next year.
The state of the art market which was commissioned on May 15, 2024 is expected to cost Sh.358 million aimed at providing a clean working environment for the traders in the county.
National Government Development County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee (NGD-CICMC) led by Laikipia county commissioner Onesmus Kyatha while on inspection tour to the project on Wednesday revealed that once complete would have 720 market stalls and 20 shops.
Kyatha noted that the project was in line with the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Additionally the facility will have a storey building aimed at ensuring all traders get a space to work in a dignified environment.
The CC noted that the project was also creating job opportunities for the residents since the construction materials were sourced locally as pledged by the Kenya Kwanza administration aimed at bolstering local economy.
Kyatha urged National Government Heads of Department to be in the frontline on sensitizing residents about government services for seamless development.
