Tourism PS urges Trans Mara residents to enroll in new government health programme SHA

Residents of Trans Mara residents have been encouraged to enroll in the new government health programme, Social Health Authority (SHA) to access comprehensive healthcare services.

Speaking at Enaarolong village in Transmara West during the commissioning of Ilwuasi Nkishu Secondary School, State Department for Tourism Principal Secretary (PS) John Ololtuaa highlighted that the government is transitioning from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to SHA.

The PS said SHA is a more inclusive programme designed to ensure all Kenyans can access quality healthcare services.

“This new programme, SHA, ensures that all residents can access a comprehensive range of quality health services without facing financial hardship,” Olotuaa added.

The PS urged locals to take advantage of the initiative, stressing the government’s commitment to providing healthcare for all.

“SHA is key to ensuring equitable access to healthcare services, so we encourage everyone to register,” he added.

Echoing the PS’s sentiments, Trans Mara West Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Chuck Masua, also urged residents to register for SHA.

He noted that Chiefs and community promoters are available to guide those needing assistance with the registration process.

“For anyone needing help with enrollment, feel free to visit your local Chiefs or community promoters for guidance,” Masua said.

Additionally, residents can easily register for SHA via their mobile phones by dialing *147# and following the prompts.

The call for registration marks a step towards the government’s goal of ensuring access to healthcare for all citizens, especially in rural areas.
