Mama Rachel Ruto Maternity surpasses 1,000 deliveries

Mama Rachel Ruto Maternity Hospital in Kiplombe Ward, Turbo Sub-county in Uasin Gishu, has surpassed the 1000 mark in deliveries three months after being launched.

Available records indicate that Mama Rachel Maternity has realised an increase in deliveries with over 1000 normal deliveries and 50 caesarean sections since its launch in June 2024, marking a pivotal milestone in enhancing maternal healthcare services in the County.

Health Services Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Deborah Mlongo, highlighted the importance of enrolling expectant mothers in the just-launched healthcare system, taking advantage of the services offered by the hospital, and registering with the Social Health Authority (SHA) programme.

“The government is committed to ensuring that every mother has access to quality healthcare, and by enrolling in SHA, mothers can benefit from essential services that will not only support their health, but also that of their newborns,” said the CS when she made a detour to the facility, before launching the Social Health Authority in Eldoret on Tuesday.

The Cabinet Secretary noted that the government’s investment in healthcare infrastructure, such as the Mama Rachael Hospital, was crucial for achieving the anticipated Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and encouraged all community leaders and health workers, to assist in spreading awareness about the available services and the importance of maternal health through SHA.

Uasin Gishu County Governor, Dr. Jonathan Bii, commended the hospital staff for their dedication and hard work, emphasising the vital role that the facility plays in providing quality healthcare to lactating mothers and infants.

“This achievement is not just a number; it represents hope and the promise of a healthier future for our community. The delivery of safe and healthy babies, is a testament to the commitment of our healthcare providers,” he stated.

In addition to celebrating the Hospital’s achievements, the visit included a tour of the facility, where they interacted with newborn mothers and healthcare providers, further expressing their gratitude for the facility’s services, noting the positive impact it has had on maternal and child health in the area.

As Mama Rachael Hospital continues to grow and serve the needs of the community, the call for mothers to enrol in SHA resonates strongly, promising a brighter future for maternal health in the region, and with ongoing support from the local and national leadership, the hospital is poised to be a beacon of health and hope for many families in the years to come.
