Premature campaigns for 2022 elections have been termed as a hindrance to attainment of government’s development agenda.

A  section of Jubilee MPs have said that putting the country into elections mode currently is like disrespecting the President who is rooting for implementation of his Big 4 Agenda.

The legislators aligned to Kieleweke faction on Sunday castigated some of their colleagues from Jubilee party who are busy campaigning for 2022.

Led by the Nyeri Township MP, Ngunjiri  Wambugu and his Kangema counterpart, Muturi Kigano, the lawmakers said leaders should first focus on delivering development promises they made to their constituents before their election in 2017.

Wambugu said leaders engaging in early campaigns are creating divisions thus making it difficult to attain development programmes as each project is viewed from a political angle.

“It’s foolish for leaders in power now to engage in premature campaigns promising to work for the people after 2022 and yet they are currently in power politicking,” posed Wambugu.

He accused a section of leaders from mount Kenya region who are engaged in 2022 elections politics, saying they are disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta who have asked all leaders to shun from premature campaigns.

“The president directed all leaders to desist from early campaigns but seeing some of us busy engaging in premature 2022 elections is like an insult. The president needs ample time to implement his four pillar development agenda,” noted the Nyeri town MP at Kanyenyaini Catholic Church.

He lauded the handshake between the President and opposition chief, Raila Odinga, saying the coming together of the two leaders have created conducive environment for implementation of the development programme.

“The unity brought about by the handshake is what’s enabling the President deliver the Big 4 to Kenyans as seen by the factories being revived, roads being constructed, energy plants being launched.

“We are not campaigning for anyone for 2022. This means we aren’t campaigning for Raila Odinga, Gideon Moi, Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka or Ekuro Aukot. Right now what we are doing is supporting the President to deliver on his legacy,” added Wambugu.

Muturi asked the leaders to respect the president and support him to leave behind a strong legacy.

“The president is the leader of the government and he should be given his due respect. When we are supporting him, we are not foolish as some people are alleging.” noted Kigano.

He observed that various projects have been implemented in central region and the exercise of doing more projects especially on roads, water and industries is going on,” Kigano added.

Other leaders present were, Ruth Mwaniki (Kigumo) and her Kasarani counterpart, Mercy Gakuyia.
