Youth urged to acquire skills in maritime sector

The chairman of the Mombasa based Saido Foundation Said Abdalla has urged the youth in coast region to consider a career in the maritime sector.
Abdalla said with the government now focusing on the blue economy it is prudent for young people to explore career opportunities at sea.
He was speaking in Mombasa when he unveiled 1922 youth recruited by his foundation to study courses in maritime in local colleges.
Abdalla welcomed the recent commissioning of the Bandari Maritime Academy at the Kilindini port in Mombasa by President Uhuru Kenyatta saying the maritime academy will meet the rising demands of the emerging blue economy sector.
He said the blue economy concept that encompasses fisheries, maritime biotechnology, aquaculture, tourism and transport was the next frontier of development for the coastal counties of Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu.
