Launch of the Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC)

Ministry of Health has launched a validation survey on Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) to get the accurate number of males who have been circumcised in the region.
Speaking on Friday during the launch of the programme, acting Chief Officer for Health Dr.Gerald Akeche said that Homa-Bay County has the highest HIV preverence nationwide and the lowest preverence of VMMC and as a department they were joining hands to ensure that the awareness of VMMC is created.
Dr Akeche added that since the VMMC was launched in 2008 the percentage of circumcised adults has improved to 14 percent in Homa-Bay County.
The Medics further revealed that this programme targeted four Counties in the Nyanza region which are Kisumu, Migori, Siaya and Homa-Bay and the sensitsation is to take a period of three months.
A representative from the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Dr. Elijah Odoyo called upon the residents of Homa-Bay to ensure that the exercise was successful.
