Ndhiwa residents protest poor condition of roads

Public service transport in parts of Ndhiwa Sub-County was disrupted after public service transport operators held a demonstration to protest over the poor condition of roads in the area.

The angry demonstrators paralyzed transport for several hours, accusing both the government and Ndhiwa Sugar Company for the deteriorating condition roads.

The protesters expressed frustrations that despite being taxed by the county government, the roads in the area were poorly maintained.

They complained that the roads have become impassable due to heavy downpours and threatened to boycott remitting taxes to the government unless they act fast to improve the roads.

Additionally, the protesters accused Ndhiwa Sugar Company for allowing over loaded tractors with poor lighting on the roads, which has led to accidents and damage to roads.

They also pointed out that Ndhiwa Sugar Company’s tractors often breakdown on the roads and are mostly poorly parked without proper warning road signs, creating further hazards.

In response to the concerns of the protesters, the company’s management promised to address their concerns to ensure smooth operations and better cooperation with the locals.
