Vihiga Establishes Skills Resource Centre for Health Workers

The county government of Vihiga in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development, through the Momentum Country and Global Leadership has established a skills resource centre at the county referral hospital.

Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo says the Centre, equipped with an LCD screen, projector, manikins, Cabinets, infusion pumps, as well as tables and chairs, will be used for training of the Health Care Workers (HCWs).

He disclosed that the first batch of 100 HCWs is receiving training on Early Essential Newborn Care (EENC) covering newborn resuscitation, Kangaroo Mother Care for preterm babies and neonatal infection.

The county head stated that the training aims at reducing maternal and newborn deaths, which had been a big concern in the past.

Meanwhile, the county is going to host the western region jobs fair organized by the state department for foreign and diaspora affairs for imparting requisite skills to the youth.

The director of skills and expertise at the ministry of foreign affairs Irene Karari, who paid him a courtesy call, said activity will take place from 28th to 30th August 2024 where over 8,000 job seekers would benefit.

Karari added that after training, they would be linked to trusted agents to enable them secure jobs abroad.
