To boost agribusiness in Elgeyo Marakwet County, the Cereal Growers Association has conducted a Digital Marketing Skills Training for youth involved in the agricultural sector.
The project was made possible through a strategic partnership with Yara International and the World Food Programme Kenya’s Vijanainkilimobizz initiative.
Youth were trained in Iten in digital marketing to enhance their agribusiness ventures.
The “Vijanainkilimobizz” initiative, led by WFP Kenya, aims to empower youth in the agricultural sector by equipping them with essential skills and tools for success.
By focusing on digital marketing and innovative farming practices, the initiative fosters entrepreneurship and leverages digital platforms to enhance productivity, market effectiveness, and overall growth in agribusiness.
Speaking during the event, Daniel Biwott a representative from the Cereal Growers Association noted, “Together, we are shaping the future of agriculture and empowering the next generation of agripreneurs.”
He explained that this training is a key part of the Farm to Market Alliance’s efforts, in partnership with the Cereal Growers Association, to equip Farmer Service Centers (FSC) from Elgeyo Marakwet with essential digital skills.
He added that these skills focus primarily on exploiting social media to grow their businesses and reach a broader audience.
Biwott noted that the initiative’s hashtags, #TogetherWeGrow, #makingmarketsworkbetterforfarmers, and #vijanainkilimobizz, highlight the collaborative effort to drive positive change in the agricultural sector.
Emily Kiptoo, a participant shared their experience, saying, she was grateful for the workshop as the training is meant to impart digital skills to farmers on information access, and market access, and generally improve their enterprises.
Kiptoo said that the Cereal Growers Association and its partners are committed to ensuring that youth in agribusiness have the knowledge and tools needed to thrive in the digital age.
“By empowering these young agripreneurs, we are paving the way for a more prosperous and innovative agricultural sector in the County”.
