Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has unveiled three water projects in Kikumbulyu North Ward set to benefit about 111,000 people that will cost over Sh77 million.
In the Kiaoni area, Mutula inspected the extension of the Makaani-Kiaoni water pipe line by 4.4 kilometres, which included the rehabilitation of the Kiaoni Water kiosk, the elevation of the tank tower, and the installation of a 10-cubic-meter tank at a cost of Sh4.3 million.
The Governor also commissioned a concrete reservoir tank with a capacity of 225,000 cubic meters by KIBMASCO Water Company in Kathyaka at a cost of Sh4.5 million and will serve 6,300 people in Ngulu and Nyayo clusters.
“The commissioning of these water development projects is aimed at ensuring safe and adequate water supply across Makueni County for domestic, irrigation, and industrial use,” said Mutula at Kiaoni Market during the unveiling of the Makaani-Kiaoni water project on Friday.
At Athi, the Governor commissioned the Athi-Kilema-Tunguni water project, where Sh68 million has been spent, and it is projected to benefit over 100,000 people in Kikumbulyu North, Makindu, and Nguumo wards.
Among the scope of works are the construction of a 250,000-cubic-meter water tank at Mukononi Hill, composite filtration, electromechanical systems for water treatment plants, distribution networks for Makindu, Kikumbulyu North, and Nguumo wards, and the construction of four water kiosks.
Other works included the installation of three panels of 100W solar, streetlights, the installation of a chemical injector pump, painting of the elevated tank components, and gauge repair.
During the tour, Mutula also commissioned two Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) projects where classrooms, stores, three-door toilets, and offices were constructed for Sh7 million.
In Kyaani and Katilani ECDE centres, two class rooms, a store, an office, and three door toilets for each were constructed.
“My government has embarked on ensuring the ECDE learners learn in a good and conducive environment,” said Mutula while unveiling the projects.
Speaking at the same function, Kibwezi Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Paul Wanyonyi asked the public to guard the projects against vandalism that is rampant in the area.
Wanyonyi urged residents to provide security personnel with intelligence information that will enable the arrest of criminals behind the vandalism of implemented projects.
On defilement, he challenged parents to offer good parenting to their children and also report those who abuse children so that they can be prosecuted.
Present at the function included Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, Water Sanitation and Irrigation Executive Committee Member (ECM) Eng. John Kieti, his counterparts for Devolution, Infrastructure, and Trade Japheth Mang’oka, Sabastian Kyoni, and Eng. Peter Mumo, respectively, among other senior officers.
