Sports, Youth Affairs and the Creative Economy Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has said the government is working on modalities for the realization of socio-economic development in the country.
Namwamba stated that the economy has been on the positive trajectory since the current region took over about two years ago.
Speaking during the fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP) 2023-2027 dissemination forum for Vihiga county on Thursday, the CS appealed to the citizenry to be patient as policies and programmes are put in place to ensure common prosperity through equitable distribution of resources and opportunities.
He noted that they have identified priority areas including agriculture, infrastructure development, value addition, supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as the digital economy as catalysts for economic growth.
On her part, the Principal Secretary (PS) for higher education Beatrice Inyangala mentioned a number of projects being undertaken in the county including the granite factory in Emuhaya Sub County, the setting up Kenya School of Government (KSG) in Vihiga Sub County and the roads upgrading as indicative of the government’s commitment to improve the lives of the people.
Giving her views, Ann Shaban, a participant, asked the Ministry of Health to ensure prompt payment of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) monies to the health facilities so that the contributors are not denied the services.
Juma Lumiti from the business community, appealed to make it easy for the people to engage in business by reducing the tax burden.
