Education stakeholders have been asked to resolve persisting differences and give a clear direction on implementation of the new curriculum.
Ahadi Kenya Trust Executive Director Dr. Stanley Kamau has noted that currently there is confusion especially to teachers and parents as some parties are differing over the new curriculum.
Kamau said the Kenya National Union of Teachers and the Ministry of Education among other stakeholders should sit down and speak in one voice on the new curriculum.
Speaking when he commissioned a new library funded by his organisation at Karunge Primary school in Mathioya sub county Friday, the executive director observed that many parents especially in rural areas are not aware on what materials they should purchase for their children.
“Due to differences between KNUT and ministry of education, implementation of the new curriculum may face challenge and thus occasion confusion,” noted Kamau who for long time has championed eradication of jigger among school going children.
He said some schools lacked materials to teach on new curriculum, while requesting the government to fast track issuance of the much needed books among other materials for implementation of the curriculum.
Kamau added that if the current trend persists, the curriculum will be implemented in some schools as others continue with the old curriculum, given the current lack of proper coordination.
“The current confusion may occasion delay in implementation of the curriculum in some schools. So there is need for consensus to ensure the process is done in all schools,” he added.
KNUT has been against implementation of the new curriculum citing lack of wide consultations and inadequate training of teachers on the new curriculum.
Despite the resistance from KNUT, the government vowed to move on with the implementation saying training of teachers will go on as the curriculum is being introduced in lower primary school level.
Karunge Primary school got a fully equipped library from Ahadi Kenya Trust with some books donation coming from former planning Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera.
Majority of the books were of the new curriculum with learners being encouraged to take advantage of the library to boost performance.
Meanwhile, Kamau encouraged young people from Mathioya constituency to take part in the forthcoming census.
He observed that some youth usually opt not to take part of government’s projects saying census is very crucial as it guides government in planning and distribution of resources.
“Local residents who work out of this area should come back home and be counted as it will help our constituency to get appropriate allocation of resources from the government,” stated the ant-jigger crusader.
