American Varsity to collaborate with higher learning institutions in various fields of specialization

Indiana University, one of the best institution of higher learning in the United State of America is willing to collaborate with five Kenyan’s universities in various fields of specialization.

In a bilateral meeting between representatives from the two countries held at Ministry of Education, Jogoo House, it was mutually agreed that the individual Kenyan’s universities will identify faculties which they expect Indiana University to support them.

The Principal Secretary for the State Department of Higher Education and Research, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala chairing the meeting said the collaboration will open many opportunities for Kenyan students to receive excellent university education. “Indiana University is a world class institution, it is a top notch in several fields of studies”, she said.

She urged the local universities vice chancellors to find ways and space for collaboration with Indiana University. The PS further disclosed that for the last twenty years, the US based university has been partnering with Moi University, Eldoret.

The four other universities besides Moi University that attended the meeting were: Embu University, Technical University of Kenya, Dedan Kimathi and Open University of Kenya all represented by their vice chancellors.

From Embu University, Prof. Daniel Mugendi, the vice chancellor forwarded Agriculture, bio-technology and Nursing as his preferred areas of collaboration. While Prof. Eng Peter Muchiri of Dedan Kimathi and Technology picked Micro- Electronics as his university’s niche in the collaboration.

The two other universities of Technical University of Kenya and The Open University of Kenya selected Medical physics and Data science respectively. Commenting on the collaboration opportunities, Hilary E. Kahn a representative of Indiana University, said that there are so many opportunities within their university for the Kenyan’s universities.

She said they have unique courses that can be areas of interests for African’s universities. “We are the only university in the world that has school of philanthropy,’’ she posed.
