ICT applicants turn up for interviews ahead of Census

Ninety  nine  per cent of applicants  who expressed interest in being recruited to work as ICT officers in the Census exercise scheduled to take place next month in Kiambu County  turned up for interviews.

The  enthusiastic applicants started streaming at the St.Pauls and St.Peter Catholic Church as early as 6.30 a.m. so as to avoid long queues. Security checks were conducted prior to the applicants being allowed into the main hall and the exercise was free of incidents.

The  National Bureau of Statistics Kiambu County Coordinator, Willy  Konde assured the applicants that the exercise would be fair and that  those  who qualified would be recruited to work during the census.

The  Coordinator  said the position of ICT officers had attracted 2,190 applicants from the 13 sub- counties. From the applicants, 846 qualified as per the advertisement which was circulated in the mainstream media.

Further, he said the number was cascaded down to 320 who were subjected to a written interview after verification of their certificates.

They  will  further  be subjected to an oral interview on Sunday 7th 2019 at the Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology (KIST)

Konde  explained that the census committee was basing their cascading on factors like age, experience, maturity and was also going to give  preference to those who were not employed elsewhere. He added that 5 people living with disabilities (PLWD) had expressed interest and had been considered without being subjected to the interview procedures.

He  appealed to those who had applied for positions of enumerators to be patient, saying their interviews would be conducted between 12th and 14th of July respectively.

He  revealed that 27,000 had expressed their interest to work and that 7,800 had been shortlisted for the interview.

The  Census committee supervised the written interview which lasted for one and a half hours and the interviewees were not allowed to use  phones or other electronic gadget. The written exam was conducted countrywide.
