Retired Anglican Church of Kenya Archbishop Eliud Wabukhala has called on residents of the North Rift counties to embrace peace to fuel development in the region.
The retired cleric, who is also the County Peer Review Mechanism lead panellist, called on the residents to adopt reconciliation, effective communication, and active listening to one another, saying this was key to bringing unity in the region.
“I urge all of us in this region, my friends in Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, and all neighbouring counties, to embrace peace so that we can benefit from the various development projects being undertaken by our county governments,” he pleaded.
He was speaking in Iten, where he led the county peer review mechanism team, who are in Elgeyo Marakwet, to undertake the validation of the county self-assessment reports involving 12 counties.
He said peace in the area will be of great benefit not only to the region but to the whole country, given the region’s huge agricultural and livestock potential.
Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wesley Rotich hailed the mechanism, saying counties will learn from each other, which will enable them to address challenges and share best practices in their governance systems.
The CEO NEPAD/APRM Kenya secretariat ambassador, Dr. Samori Okwiya, said Elgeyo Marakwet is one of the 12 counties that acceded to the mechanism in 2017 during the 4th devolution conference.
The other counties are Mombasa, Siaya, Machakos, Nyeri, Kakamega, Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Vihiga, Makueni, Nandi, and Busia.
