County leadership commend government for improved security in Moyale

The  Marsabit  County leaders  have hailed the government for improving  on  security in Moyale sub-county which has led to accelerated development.

Governor  Mohamud  Ali  noted that Moyale town which previously experienced unrests was now a haven of peace and urged security agencies  not  to relent on the fight against crime.

Speaking at Butiye when he commissioned the upgrading of tarmacking of roads in Moyale town estates on  Wednesday, Governor  Ali  said  development  was now taking place because there was security and appealed to residents to continue living in peace, their multi-ethnic  composition not-withstanding.

The  governor also urged residents of Moyale to co-exist harmoniously with their neighbouring Ethiopians adding that the town was strategically placed as a regional and transit hub.

The  4.5 kilometres road links targeted for upgrading to bitumen standard at a cost of Sh.370 million are within the existing road network in  Moyale town and was expected to improve transport services to the residents.

The  governor said the construction works were expected to be complete in the next 12 months and asked the contractor to deliver on the implementation of development projects of the required standards and within the proposed time.

He  emphasized the importance of public participation in the implementation of development projects, saying this ensured correct placement of priorities and ownership of projects for sustainability purposes.

“I  want to urge all of you and especially those in respective project areas to collectively and individually develop keen interest and accord those  undertaking the projects on your behalf the necessary support,” Governor Ali said.

The  tranquility in the sub-county where Moyale town used to experience robberies even during the day was as a result of intensified security patrols and intelligence initiatives.

Contacted  by  KNA, Marsabit Police Commander (CPC), Steve  Oloo  expressed  satisfaction that  wananchi  were now realizing the importance of being part of the solution to insecurity.

The  CPC  added that security organs in the county were on strict instructions to decisively deal with criminal elements, adding that his  office would do its best to compliment the effort of the Marsabit leadership and residents.
