Suspected plastic bag sellers released on bond

Two  traders  who were charged at a Chuka court  with possession and unlawful trading in the banned plastic bags have been released on bond.

The  court heard that Justin Kirimi was found in possession of 189 pieces of the plastic bags at Kibugua market  while Riley Gatiiria  was found  in possession of 8, 680 pieces of plastic bags in Chuka town on Tuesday 25, June  2019.

The two pleaded not guilty before the  Chuka Resident Magistrate, Mwanamkuu  Sudi  and were released on bond.

The  court released Kirimi on a cash bail of Sh.30, 000 or a bond of Sh.50, 000 with a surety of a similar amount, while Gatiiria was released on a cash bail of Sh.50, 000 or a bond of Sh.100, 000 with a surety of a similar amount.

The  two were arrested in a crackdown by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) with the aid of police officers.
