Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, Eliud Owalo, joins the Kenya National Men’s Basketball Team, ‘The Morans’, in a play at Nyayo National Stadium Basketball Gymnasium in Nairobi, Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

“I was a player and am still a player and a fan. So we are giving back to the sport,” said Owalo.

The Team is preparing to leave the country next week for the Afro-Basketball qualifier games that will kick-off in South Africa.

He said basketball has played a fundamental role in bringing the game to where it is presently, from the time of his youthful days, and promised to give back to the game by supporting the Team.

“We are united in supporting this Team as a basketball fraternity, as former players, and as a Nation. Depending on unfolding events from time to time, we will give back to our game, by supporting the team,” Owalo stressed.

The CS announced that the Eliud Owalo Foundation will sponsor a National Basketball Tournament, featuring the Eight top teams in the Kenya Basketball Federation Premier League, scheduled for 11th to 12th May 2024, at the Nyayo National Stadium and other venues within Nairobi County.

Owalo also stated that Nyanza is also set to have a school basketball tournament featuring the top 12 teams, comprising both girls and boys from the region, in the first week of March this year.

Present at the event was the Chairman of the Kenya Basketball Federation, Mr. Paul Otula, among others.
