Construction of 320 Affordable Housing units in Kericho to kick off soon

The National Youth Service (NYS) has started demolishing structures, erected illegally at the Majengo Talai land, where Phase 1 of the Affordable Housing Project is set to be launched in Kericho town.

While leading a team to inspect the 4.5-acre land where 320 modern Housing Units under the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) will be constructed, Kericho County commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo confirmed that families who were living in the structures have heeded the government’s appeal to them to vacate the site ahead of commencement of the major project.

Kitiyo said demarcation and bush clearing will follow after the NYS have pulled down the existing structures at the site.

The County Commissioner (CC) was grateful to the Majango-Talai Community for embracing the AHP programme by graciously moving out of the site to allow the government to implement the AHP Programme in Kericho County, where many Kenyans will benefit from the Housing programme.

He said the locals especially the youth and women will benefit from the manual labour during construction of the houses.

The CC urged the Majengo-Talai residents to clear up the remaining items like iron sheets to avoid loss during the demolition of the structures.

Meanwhile, Kitiyo who earlier on chaired a meeting on AHP his boardroom formed a committee to look into the status of the markets that have been funded by the national and county governments along the Londiani-Kericho-Sotik highway and report back its findings by Friday.

The national government intends to build a total of 10,000 Housing Units in Kericho County as promised by the Kenya Kwanza administration.
