Scholarship recipients urged to utilize the offer to excel

Elimu Scholarship recipients in Kakamega have been challenged to utilize the life-changing opportunity to perform exemplary and transform their communities in future.

Western Regional Coordinator of the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation (JKF) Zebedeo Matoke told beneficiaries that they were lucky to have been selected from a pool of over 3600 applicants across the entire Kakamega County.

He said most applicants deserved the offer, but the foundation and the Ministry of Education had only 459 slots for Kakamega, which had to benefit the neediest cases of students from vulnerable families.

Matoke spoke to students and parents at the Western Regional Commissioners’ compound, who were collecting scholarship kits for their schools.

The scholarship package included a school kit, including stationery and personal items to support beneficiaries throughout their four-year secondary education.

Parents who accompanied their children expressed a sigh of relief thanking the government for giving their children a chance to study uninterrupted and realize their dreams.

For the beneficiaries, it was the start of a life-changing journey promising to make use of the offer to perform better in their studies.

According to Zebedeo, the select committee settled on 55% of girls and 45 % boys beneficiaries.

He noted that a total of 13 beneficiaries were selected from Kakamega North Sub County, 58 from Kakamega Central, 41 from Kakamega East, 24 from Kakamega South, 33 from Butere, 25 from Khwisero, 27 from Mumias East, and 30 from Mumias West.

Others were 37 beneficiaries from Likuyani, 41 from Matungu, 38 from Navakholo, 28 from Lugari, 18 from Ikolomani, and an additional 46 from the entire county due to the population of Kakamega County.
