Family of slain woman wants govt to expedite justice for their daughter

A distraught family from Kirarwa, Gatanga, is calling on the government to expedite and find justice for their daughter, who was murdered at Kasarani area, Nairobi, on the weekend of January 20, 2024, by a man suspected to be her boyfriend.

The 24 year old, Grace Wangari’s, murder came barely a week after the dismembered body of 20-year-old university student, Rita Waeni, was found stuffed in bags at an apartment in Nairobi.

Wangari’s mother, Susan Wairimu painfully narrates that she received a distress call on the night of January 20 informing her that her daughter had been involved in an accident and required urgent medical attention because she was bleeding profusely

“I requested the caller to take Wangari to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital because I did not have money to have her rushed to a private hospital,” she recalls.

The caller whom she later came to know are police officer called her, while attending a church service the following day, Sunday, and asked her whether she had managed to get to the hospital and told her to halt her plans of going to Kiambu Level 5 hospital, but to instead proceed to the DCI, Kasarani.

The mother upon reporting to the DCI Kasarani, was informed that her daughter had unfortunately passed on and her body had been taken to the city mortuary.

“They informed me that a sink had fallen on my daughter leaving her with serious cuts on her body, a report that grossly contradicted with the state I found her body in,” says Wairimu.

Wangari, a mother of two girls aged 5 and 1 year according to her family, had moved to Nairobi, Ngong area in October 2023, to work as a beautician. She had multiple stab wounds in her body.

“I wondered how a sink could cause such severe wounds, as she had two stab wounds at the back, two on each side of the shoulders, and more on both legs” she says tearfully, adding that “All we want is justice for my daughter even as we undertake burial plans, because I believe nobody is above the law since Wangari is gone for good”

The suspect, Clinton Mwangi, who is said to have resulted to extreme violence using a sharp object after an altercation with the slain Wangari, is in police custody pending investigations.
